
John V. Callahan has been working in various forms of art since his youth. He began building model tanks, and customizing cars in Rio Vista, California. He won ribbons for his custom interpretations of automobile style.
John began Decoy carving in 1979 in Lodi. He has attended workshops across the country learning the techniques of the masters of the art, Jim Sprankle, Pat Godin and other notables in the field. John paints landscapes and a variety of acrylics paintings.
John's interest in the casting process was taught to him and his wife Judy by Willa Shalot. She is recognized as the leading artist in the field of life casting. John learned the craft and has done castings of radio personalities "On the Air" at studio and during the Senior Gold Rush Golf Tournment in El Dorado Hills. He has also done hands and faces for friends and relatives. Most notable is the casting of his grandsons hand and feet when he was 18 months old.
John is currently working in Bronze. He has produced several pieces using the life casting process and also pieces in freeform.
John is also writing newspaper articles about his worldwide travels, and has submitted articles to Rod and Custom Magazine featuring 1950 and 60 era cars and Hot Rods.
